Prepare
the roost!
MPs
in government are naturally subject to more scrutiny than those
in opposition. Of course, the nature of opposition is that one
hopes in the future to be in government, which is why the
Conservatives' patented calls for resignations have always
struck me as flirtation with future disaster. For one thing, it
assumes that Liberal politicians are inherently less salubrious
than Conservative politicians — that a Conservative government
would instantly and forever more be as clean as the snow driven
across an Ottawa runway by an Airbus engine. For another, it
ensures that if Harper's gang ever does get its act together and
win an election, they'll have a Liberal opposition foaming at
the mouth to win back ten years of zingers.
It
begins. Will it be Reg Alcock, or some other lucky Grit, who
gets to call for the cancellation of the Vic Toews Show when the
House of Commons reconvenes? Personally, I'd do it with a
bullhorn.
